Love Contrasted
Listen to this daily worship
1 Corinthians 13: 1 (NIVUK)
1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
In his sermon entitled: ’The Greatest Thing In the World’ Henry Drummond points to the one thing that changes lives and is the glue that holds the church together. An authentic encounter with selfless love. It is to have an encounter with grace. We don’t need leaders who are eloquent communicators, as much as we need leaders who live out love so eloquently that women and men are drawn into the amazing Cycle of Grace (a link to a video on grace from our archive). This is what is means for church to be Church.
The thing is most people quickly close their ears to a clattering, clanging cymbal, but they are drawn to and are moved by the music of love. Such music is encountered, experienced rather than displayed or put on show. At the end of the day it is not really how you say it, it’s how you live it that rings true. Church needs to become a living organic expression of the love of God shown in Jesus.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus,
Help me to lift you up
Above all the noise of words
And communication techniques
And traditions of our church
I long for people to be drawn to you
Not me
Not a church
Not a denomination
Not a theology
Not even a lifestyle
If You are lifted up
Love is lifted up
If love is lifted up
True faith is lifted up
If faith is lifted up
Living hope is lifted up
If living hope is lifted up
All the generations from A-Z
Will be drawn into the cycle of grace.
When love is contrasted
Love wins hands down.
