Hannah’s Song Part 2
Listen to this daily worship
1 Samuel 2: 6-10 (NRSVA)
6
The Lord kills and brings to life;
he brings down to Sheol and raises up.7
The Lord makes poor and makes rich;
he brings low, he also exalts.8
He raises up the poor from the dust;
he lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes
and inherit a seat of honour.
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
and on them he has set the world.9
‘He will guard the feet of his faithful ones,
but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness;
for not by might does one prevail.10
The Lord! His adversaries shall be shattered;
the Most High will thunder in heaven.
The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;
he will give strength to his king,
and exalt the power of his anointed.’
Hannah sings the blues.
Hannah basically says, everything is equal in the sight of God. DO y’all not know how small you are in the face of the most significant power in the universe? Her song echoes throughout the ages, as fresh now as when it was written down for us.
You, we, me — we are not special yet we are all incredibly special to the God who made us. We are nothing but everything and that’s hard to wrap your head around in our binary modern world.
What she’s saying is: Be happy with being a precious diamond because there is no more precious diamond.
See, that’s world changing right there. No-one is more important than anyone else, you are all important.
My kids often say to their mum and I “He’s the most special…” BUT you can’t know until you know, there really, really, really ARE no favourites when you’re a parent — all your children are special.
You might not feel special when you read this. I promise you this: You ARE special. You are SO special.
May as well feel it.
May as well play your blues.
Cause your blues are true.
And every blues is original.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for making me feel special even when I don’t feel special
Thank you for reminding me we are all equal in your sight.
Thank you for reminding me that no matter what I feel, or see, or have heard.
Your word is all that’s true
And everything else isn’t black or white
It’s just a different shade of blue
And in blue
Is true
