The Herald reports the holy message on the superhighway

Yesterday The Herald published an article entitled,The Kirk takes holy message to the superhighway; is was  an interesting article, outlining the aspirations of Sanctuary First, to eventually  become a bona fide congregation of the Church of Scotland. I particularly liked the headline because there is a profound ring of truth embedded in it.  The journalist understood that It was not  just any message, that the Kirk is called to deliver -  it is a holy message.  I’m glad that the writer used the word holy, because that is the best description of the message we bring to the superhighway. It is a message like no other. It is the most winsome and awe inspiring message. It stands apart from all others. It is a message that calls us to look beyond the physical and to engage with the eternal.

The word for holy is the Hebrew language is “qodesh” which means “apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness”. Yet it is even more than that, it is to talk of “otherness” that which is completely different, beyond our understanding, yet within our being. It is to lift our  eyes from the gutter, to glimpse something that is beyond our reach, yet inspires us to be more than we are.  It is to, not only talk about the transcendent and totally otherness of God, it is to encounter his presence and communion in the present here and now. I’m not sure if the writer realised the size of the compliment he was giving to the Kirk, but it certainly wasn’t lost on me. What a responsibility to be charged with the Holy message.
