What a question
John 21: 19
"Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?"
What a question!
Of course I love him!
This has cost me,
to sit beside him.
Does he not sense my fear
of his rejection?
Three times
I denied him.
Not once!
But, three times!
Yes, Lord,
you know that I love you!
"Feed my sheep."
My heart dares to think
that Jesus is forgiving
me!
He asks me again
if I love him.
What does he mean?
I've already said
that I love him!
"Take care of my sheep."
No! This can't be!
He asks me for a third time,
"Simon, son of John,
do you love me?"
He knows I do!
"Feed my sheep."
My soul is aflame
with his love
and forgiveness.
Three denials
blotted out!
I am restored!
What now?
Lord,
We often deny you
In the way we treat others.
Forgive us.
Lord,
we often use denial
as a protection for ourselves.
Denial is so easy and "safe",
yet you would ask more
from us.
Denial makes us less
than you would have us be.
Denial denies you
your place
in our hearts.
Lord,
fill us
with your loving forgiveness
and
as with Peter,
commission us
in your service,
so that denial
gives way to
acceptance.
