Amos 5:14-15 NRSV

Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Lord God
We face a world of more uncertainty this morning
We face the challenge of our seeming impotence
in the face of momentous events
which move in only one direction:
more suffering for innocents.

Help us to learn
To learn that it is we who are called
to establish justice
We who are called to speak up and speak out
We who are called not just to emote in the face of world events
But actually to do, to be the voice, to raise the conscience.

Make our prayer today
one for watchfulness
for listening
for preparing
So that we are ready to speak peace
and to call for justice.

Amen.
