Matthew 6: 10 (NRSVA)

10

    Your kingdom come.
    Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

God’s Kingdom is something we can invite daily.

This divine unfolding project of restoration and renewal — is already here and yet it is something which is continually arriving, becoming, being realised through God’s people as the Holy Spirit enthuses and guides us.

Prayer:

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

where hope is lost

where prospects are bleakest

and reserves are running low.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

where loneliness crowds us out

where envy and resentment weigh down on us

and fear has the upper hand.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

when we try and fail

when we are close to giving up

and despair is taking over.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

when we have made a mess

when the challenges are greatest

and time is running out.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

where ham-fisted attempts have borne fruit

where temporary fixes have bought us breathing room

and improvised solutions overcome the odds.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom to come

when weary labour turns into exhausted delight

when long conversations broker long lasting agreements

and goodwill mounts.

Lord God we invite your Kingdom

here

whether or not we’re ready

or understand

or get it

or know what’s round the corner.

We invite your Kingdom

Here.

Amen.
