No Turning Back
Listen to this daily worship
Acts 28: 30-31 (NRSVA)
30 He lived there for two whole years at his own expense and welcomed all who came to him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
Proclaiming the Kingdom with all boldness and without hindrance! Ooft! What helps us to speak without hindrance and share with boldness — as we proclaim the Kingdom ourselves?
Something that always helps is the legacy of others who have spoken boldly before.
I urge you right now to listen to the bootleg Bogle boogie of this joyous unplugged cover of ‘I Have Decided’ from a few years back.
As the ear worm goes:
“I’ve got my hand on the plough,
and my feet on the ground
no turning back!”
I cannot listen to this without grinning. I cannot listen to this without feeling the toe-tapping glimmer of the Kingdom.
The Very Reverent Albert Bogle, a man who has taught me so much, and is an enormous part of who I am in my ministry today, is a man who proclaims the Kingdom of God with all boldness and without hindrance (“no turning back, no turning back”). In the middle of the street, in a busy shop queue, in a quiet cafe corner, on an early morning phone call Albert is ready and willing to confide the Kingdom with a conspiratorial glint of welcome to the adventure.
He’s an irrepressible example to us all.
Today let’s remember that you can keep your feet on the ground and have your head in the clouds if you keep your hands on the plough! Connected to Jesus we can walk the long and winding paths of this world, spines straightened by heaven uncovering wonders with every step.
Prayer:
Lord God,
Bless our cloud borne heads
and muddy feet
as we keep our hands on the plough
ever on
boldly
with you.
Amen.
