Psalm 19: 1-6 (NRSVA)

1 The heavens are telling the glory of God;
    and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
    and night to night declares knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
    their voice is not heard;
4 yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
    and their words to the end of the world.

In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
    and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
    and its circuit to the end of them;
    and nothing is hidden from its heat.

In this psalm we are surrounded by the sheer awesomeness of God’s glory. The heavens and everything that is within the universe declare the Lord’s power, his love, his care.

Day after day we are given new insights into God’s glory.

Sometimes though we are so wrapped up in ourselves, within the drama of our lives, the worries that overwhelm us, that we fail to see and acknowledge God’s glory.

But each morning we are invited to look on his creation, his world, with fresh eyes, fresh ears, fresh understanding.

Today as you go about your daily business, look at God’s handiwork in nature, in the people you encounter, around the house or workplace, take note and thank him. Thank him for the wonder, the beauty, the truth it reveals about our creator God.

PRAYER:

Creator God

You made everything within the universe

Open my eyes Lord so that I can SEE YOU

Open my ears Lord so that I can HEAR YOU

Open my heart Lord so that I can FEEL YOU

Open my mind Lord so that I can UNDERSTAND YOU

Open my lips Lord so that I can declare YOUR GLORY

Amen
