Job 19: 23-27a (NRSVA)

23 ‘O that my words were written down!
    O that they were inscribed in a book!
24 O that with an iron pen and with lead
    they were engraved on a rock for ever!
25 For I know that my Redeemer lives,
    and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;
26 and after my skin has been thus destroyed,
    then in my flesh I shall see God,
27a whom I shall see on my side,
    and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
 

Ever since I was a wee girl I have been fascinated by space. I’m now passing on this fascination to my wee grandson Alfie. I’ve bought him a telescope for Christmas and one of our current favourite games is to play astronauts: exploring space in our rocket, exploring planets throughout the galaxy! We can have hours of fun as our imaginations run riot! 

This year it was reported that all four of the key DNA building blocks have now been found in meteorites. Some scientists think that space rocks might have delivered these compounds to Earth contributing therefore to the origin of life on the planet. 

I personally believe that science and religion are not in opposition. I personally believe that the creation of the world found in Genesis compliments the big bang theory and the theory of evolution. God works through time and space, God’s time is not the same as our time. Days for God could indeed be millions of years. 

I love the thought that the key DNA building blocks of life have been found in meteorites.That spark of life has come from God, through time and space. That knowledge of God is within our very DNA. 

I thought of this when I read the words of Job today. ‘I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. 
And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God. 
I myself will see him
With my own eyes - I and not another.
How my heart yearns within me.’

I have always believed in God. Ever since I was a child, God was known to me. I could feel God. I didn’t need proof.

And I think that is because God is within my very DNA, God is within your DNA. God has been in the DNA of all life since the beginning of time. 

PRAYER:

Creator God

In you and through you all life is birthed

Help us to see you in all of your creation

Help us to love your creation

And care for your creation

Now and Forever

Amen
