The early church could see the futility of working to simply acquire material wealth. In this parable Jesus teaches about the importance of understanding that life is about more than material wealth.
Focus on the wider strategy of building a life that is centred on trusting God rather than our own ability to succeed.  A life that is centred on the values of the coming kingdom rather than the fading possessions of time.
