You Know
Philippians 2:5-11
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death
even death on a cross!
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
Lord, you know.
You gave up the splendour of heaven’s throne.
You entered this world as a helpless baby.
Born into poverty, born as a refugee, born on the run with a price on your head. You know.
You walked the roads that we walk. You breathed the air that we breathe. You ate as we eat.
You know.
You felt hunger and thirst. You felt cold and warmth. You felt sorrow and joy. You felt pain and laughter. You know.
You were betrayed and rejected.
You were lonely and abandoned.
You were cut off and isolated.
You were mocked and beaten.
You felt the searing pain of cruel nails. You know.
Lord, you have experienced life with all its goodness. You have experienced life with all its wickedness. You have known both life and death.
But you have overcome,
and now you are exalted to the highest place.
Lord Jesus, help us to know that we too can overcome and have new life in you.
Amen.
