Mark 12:28-31

The Greatest Commandment

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Loving God with all my soul
That's pretty deep|
My soul reaches way beyond me
in ways I cannot fathom
And so my love for God
must be so deep
that it goes beyond my reach
Released into all of life
from deep within my soul
Percolating, like morning coffee
drip by drip
into every part of my being
and every part of my day
waking up tired cells
firing synapses in response
until I'm ready to put that love to work
in everyday life
from deep within my soul.

God may my love for you
flow from my soul
into the places I inhabit
in everyday.
