2 Timothy 2:5

Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.

Paul reminds his readers of the statues that lined the road to Grecian stadiums. They were of athletes who were disqualified from competition for not competing according to the rules.

Our prayer: 
“Gracious God, your love is demonstrated to us by the loving commands you give us as your children. We know they are rooted in your wisdom and truth. Help us not to be like the athletes who would disqualify themselves from the joy of victory by not competing according to the rules. Your ways are higher than ours, your truth endures and to live by your Word brings life and freedom. We ask you to empower us by your Spirit so that we will have strength in the inner person to honour you in all we do today. For Your glory, Amen”
