We take stock
Revelation 21:1-7 NRSV
This week we have been praying not to a general theme but around specific stories which have been prominent in the news. We have prayed about Syria of course, about the personal tragedies of those caught up in high profile court cases, about the crisis in the benefit system and the homelessness which is becoming an increasing problem, about the continuing environmental catastrophe in Japan and the money which has been spent on football players. We end this week of prayers and start a new one by reading Revelation chapter 21
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." Then he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
(Revelation 21:1-7 NRSV)
Heavenly Father
We pause
We take a deep breath
We take stock
We allow this day to soothe us
We allow the prospect of worship[
of fellowship
of faith lived together with others
to encourage us.
We take stock
We remember your promises
Your plan unfolding
from beginning to end
And we remember that while we peer uncertainly
trying to see before us and behind
You see it all
Alpha and Omega
We take stock
All will be well
and all will be well
and all manner of things
will be well.
We take stock
Forgive us our doubt
calm our fears
Bring us into your presence rejoicing
Amen.
Please remember that if you are not able to be in a worshiping fellowship today you can join in the services at St Andrews Bo'ness as they are streamed live at www.standonline.org.uk
