To God be the glory

May 02, 2014 0 0

Romans 8: 28-30

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Romans 8: 28 - 30
‘God knew what he was doing from the very beginning.’ God has a plan.
Fourth century Church Father Irenaeus said:  ‘Jesus is everything God understands as human, and Jesus is everything humanity understands as God’. He is the lens through which we look and see God, and see our neighbour, with love.  He is the prism through which we look at the world, and our lives, in all their kaleidoscope of beauty and brokenness, abundance and opportunity.
St Paul writes ‘And he call them (us) by name….and after getting them (us) established, he stayed with them (us) to the end, gloriously completing what he has done.’ (v 30)
God gives us our names, God knows us by name: we are not just numbers to God, but named, chosen, and loved children.  He wants us to operate out of love for Him, not fear. He wants us, like any good parent does, to become all that we can be, and gives us the grace to do so.
The same Irenaeus also said: ‘The glory of God is a human being fully alive.’  Jesus has come that we might have life, abundant life, eternal life, more life than we ever had before. Glory be to God!

Romans 8: 16
‘God’s spirit touches our spirit and confirms who we really are.  We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children.’

Prayer

To God be the glory, great things he hath done, so loved he the world that he gave us his Son! Amen
