The True Vine
John 15:1
I am the true vine
How long have you been working on this, Lord?
Thousands of years forming a people;
generations followed generations
until the true vine.
Then generations have followed generations since.
And I rush into my day as though I need to finish the job today.
We make our plans to change everything tomorrow.
We construct, deconstruct, design, redraw our plans and our ambitions
and steadily day by day you grow the vine;
steadily day by day your life bears fruit in us.
Help me to know your work in me,
to see your work around me,
to add my strength to yours.
Help me to live it.
God guard me from those thoughts men think
In the mind alone;
He that sings a lasting song
Thinks in the marrow bone.
