Telling is part of the believing
Luke 24: 33-36
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
Lord,
If there is one thing I’m not good at,
It is opening my spiritual life up to others.
That’s the bit of the story with which I don’t engage
I can feel your joy and peace
but I seldom tell a soul.
I can’t talk about you to the person sitting next to me in church
never mind running seven of eight miles to tell confused friends
I keep my faith to myself.
I always think
it’s a matter between you and me
I can’t stand those who are over gushy
You know the over flamboyant
The exuberant and confident.
The believers who know it all
They put me off.
Yet as I read this story
I don’t think they did any harm
It may have re-kindled faith and hope.
Lord,
Give me the confidence to speak of my inner peace
and to let your joy overflow into the lives of others
Help me to understand
Telling is part of the believing.
