Spirit of Life
John 3:8
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1:1-2)
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)
Lord, sometimes I curse the wind.
It blows away my headgear
it messes up my hair
it makes the rain horizontal
it nearly knocks me off the mountain.
But this I know -
wind is life.
You have breath the breath of life
into all humanity.
You have breathed new life
into your people,
into me.
So thanks for the breath of life in creation
and the wind of new creation
Thanks for the wind of your Spirit.
Let it blow, let it blow, let in blow.
Let me go with the wind
and see its effects in the world.
