Spirit chorus
Listen to this daily worship
Romans 8: 26-27 (NRSVA)
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Did you know that birdsong can calm your nervous system? The more I think about it the more it makes sense. There is no predator nearby so the birds feel free to sing out and our bodies recognise that feeling of safety even from down on the ground.
I wonder how many times I have been calmed by things in nature and not known why, but felt the effects all the same. It makes me think of the Spirit who hears my groans and sighs of despair and knows what I mean, knows what I need, even if I don’t know to ask for it.
Maybe it is the Spirit I have to thank for the times nature has calmed me.
Maybe it is the Spirit, so often depicted as a bird themselves, who has prompted that chorus so I and others like me will feel calmer.
Maybe it is the Spirit who shows us the way through the haze of human existence to the little nest in the tree where even birds feel safe and know God’s loving presence.
PRAYER:
Dear God of nature
Thank you that part of you is the Spirit
Help us to not only be calmed by nature but to be calming to it
Open our eyes to the times the Spirit intercedes for us
Open our hearts to the Spirit all around us
Amen
