The power to influence
Listen to this daily worship
Acts 2: 41 (NRSVA)
41 So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.
When I was young I loved writing letters and had pen pals all over the world. In the days before the internet and email it was such a thrill when the postman delivered a letter with a stamp from a far-off place. Deep bonds of friendships were made with pen and paper and I’m still in touch with some of my childhood pen pals today. How I loved to hear about life from the other side of the world and share details of the weather and the day to day triumphs and pains.
As I got older I discovered Amnesty International and found my love of letter writing could be used to deliver change and hope. People all around the world coming together and writing letters to governments to ask for justice and freedom for those wrongly imprisoned.
And now the power of the internet is creating movements of change, with people like Greta Thunberg influencing so many young people, and not so young people, to act against climate change.
And during this time of lockdown the nation has been inspired by 100-year-old Captain Tom Moore’s efforts to raise money for charity.
Individuals do have the power to influence. It just takes one letter, one step to start a movement, for others to take notice and want to get involved to.
PRAYER:
Father God,
Forgive us for every time we have failed to act with kindness
Forgive us for every time we have failed to speak out
Forgive us for every time our failure to act has caused hurt
Forgive us for every time we have walked by on the other side
Forgive us every time we have closed our eyes to others’ pain
Cleanse us Father, renew us and empower us to live Christlike lives
Amen.
