PEOPLE OF THE WAY
Numbers 13:23-30
When they reached the Valley of Eschol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. At the end of the forty days they returned from exploring the land.
They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran.
There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. They gave Moses this account. “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendents of Anak there.”
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should certainly go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
What does it mean to have our eyes open and our ears tune to the creation around us, and the Holy Spirit within us?
Reflection
A promise is a promise is a promise
You said we could have this blessing Lord
The journey out of captivity to a land flowing with milk and honey
Your word is true you do not lie, or make empty promises
But you did not tell us about the giants in the land
The fortified cities and the obstacles we would have to overcome
Some only see fruit in abundance and blessing and the fulfillment of the promise
God is great and the obstacles are small in comparison
Others see mountains too high to climb and themselves as mere grasshoppers too small to try.
So they stay in the safe place, and their journey grinds to a halt.
The ultimate destination will depend on whether we trust God or man.
Give us eyes of faith Lord, to see the glory of God all around
Holy Spirit lead us on.
