Not Losing Heart
Listen to this daily worship
2 Corinthians 4: 16 & 1 Corinthians 13: 8 (NIVUK)
(2 Corinthians 4) 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
(1 Corinthians 13) 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
A very ancient legend tells of how in his old age the apostle John was so weak that he had to be carried into the church meetings. At the end of each meeting he would be helped to his feet to give a word of exhortation. Invariably he would repeat, “Little children, love one another.”
The disciples grew weary of the same words every time. Finally they asked him why he said the same thing over and over. He replied, “Because it is the commandment of the Lord, and the observation of it alone is sufficient.”
On 25th June 1967 the Beatles sang "All You Need Is Love" in a live broadcast via global satellite to an estimated 400 million viewers. This was the first major televised hookup to link five continents. “Love, love, love; love is all you need”. Two thousand years on from the apostle John, and we can never weary of these words. “Little children, love one another.”
All you need is love. Why is the observation of this love sufficient? Because love never fails. With the apostle Paul we may declare, “Therefore we do not lose heart!” What a powerful affirmation!
Throughout the course of our lives we may face many difficulties which strain our relationships with others. God gives us the gift of love to empower us to endure. Love comes from God, and God’s love for us never fails. Love is the source of spiritual strength by which we will pass through the troubles of this life and arrive safely on the shores of blessing.
PRAYER:
Lord, I thank you that your strong love abides with me and holds me up through all the challenges I face in life. Let the love which is shared with those around me offer mutual encouragement and strength as we travel life’s road together. Amen.
