Losing well
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Almighty God, the poet Rudyard Kipling’s challenge to
‘meet triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same’
is a challenge that all of us, and not just sportspeople, must face.
Your word O Lord exhorts us to do all things in Your Name,
and we realise that this must include our taking part,
our winning and our losing.
Grant us therefore the grace to respond as we should
to every eventuality that comes our way,
believing that failure too on times is part of your sovereign purposes for us,
because of the lessons of grace to be learned therein.
Let it be so. Amen.
