Psalm 145: 8-14 (NRSVA)

8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 The Lord is good to all,
    and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
    and all your faithful shall bless you.
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,
    and tell of your power,
12 to make known to all people your mighty deeds,
    and the glorious splendour of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord is faithful in all his words,
    and gracious in all his deeds.
14 The Lord upholds all who are falling,
    and raises up all who are bowed down.

Creator God above all plans, all schemes, all machinations and all vendettas —

sometimes we plan for riches

and find empty pockets.

Sometimes we plan for success

and failure comes knocking.

Sometimes we plan for happiness

and hurt sneaks in somehow.

And sometimes we plan for disappointment

and instead are bowled sideways by accomplishment.

Sometimes we plan for loneliness

and discover friendship waiting.

Sometimes we plan on anger

and stumble into laughter.

They say God that if we want to make you laugh that we should tell you our plans.

Well let’s give you something to chortle over…

In the space between this section and the next we are going to tell you God in the silence of our hearts something we plan for, something that we hope for.
