1 Corinthians 12: 1-7 (NIVUK)

1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to dumb idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, ‘Jesus be cursed,’ and no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

I have a family member who has a box full of jewellery that she hardly ever wears. I used to buy this relative earrings and necklaces as gifts until I realised that she hardly ever wore any. Now I never keep anything for ‘good’ and will wear jewellery every day and for any occasion but this relative tends to only wear her jewellery for special occasions. Maybe you have a family member who is similar?

Our gifts from God can be like my relative’s jewellery — stuck in a box never seeing the light of day. Are you aware of the gifts that God has bestowed upon you? If so are you using them to serve God and build his Kingdom here on earth? If not, why not? Ask the Holy Spirit to work within you to provide you with opportunities and fill you with confidence. And if you aren’t aware of your giftings, take time to reflect and pray on what they might be. Perhaps ask a trusted brother or sister in Christ.

And take those gifts out the box, put them on, and shine for the Lord!

Prayer:

Holy Spirit

Help me to embrace and understand my God given gifts.

Give me the confidence to use and share my gifts.

Help me to learn to use my gifts for the benefit of God’s Church,

And with others build God’s Kingdom here on earth.

Amen
