Lighting the path
Psalm 119: 105-112
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow your righteous laws.
I have suffered much;
preserve my life, Lord, according to your word.
Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth,
and teach me your laws.
Though I constantly take my life in my hands,
I will not forget your law.
The wicked have set a snare for me,
but I have not strayed from your precepts.
Your statutes are my heritage for ever;
they are the joy of my heart.
My heart is set on keeping your decrees
to the very end.
Holding the door open
for another to pass through.
Holding up the light
for another to see.
Making the journey easier
for those who will come after.
Sharing our discoveries
to enrich the experience of others.
All part of the journey.
But so too is acknowledging
those who have travelled before us.
Those who have lit the way for us,
carved out the path,
removed obstacles
and shared their journey
so that we might step out lightly and boldly.
Blessed gifts given and received.
God may we be aware of those who have gone before,
of those who will come after
and be blessed by those who journey now.
