Learning to Chose well
Acts 6:3-7
Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
Lord,
Today I pray for church leaders
Those who have been faithful over many years
And those who are starting out on their journey
Keep them focused and passionate
Fill them daily with your Holy Spirit
Endue them with grace and compassion
Inspire them to be like Philip
Ready to explain the scriptures to the seeker
Willing to go where you send them
And when new leaders are required
Turn your people to the place of prayer
Give them wisdom and grace and discernment
To chose well
May they never look on the outward appearance
But like Samuel of old give them the good sense
to perceive the riches of a godly heart
and the wealth of a willing and compassionate spirit.
