Journeys old and new
Listen to this daily worship
Psalm 27: 13-14 (NRSVA)
13
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.14
Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
Not all of life is meant for sitting, no matter how comfy the armchair, sometimes we have to stride forward into life and purpose.
I wonder if the Magi, those wise folks we hear so much about who came bearing gifts for Jesus, wished for an armchair on their journey. Perhaps they had a huge entourage and servants to provide one for them even in a travelling tent. Or perhaps they were travelling light and had only what they could carry as they put their hope in faith and science to guide their path.
Perhaps we, both Magi and modern, have to be strong and let our hearts take courage as we trust in God. God who has an armchair ready in our hearts and minds for whenever the going gets tiring and we need a reminder.
Prayer:
Dear God of us all
Give us the courage and strength we need for the journeys ahead of us
Strengthen our hearts as we go out into the world
Sharpen our minds to find truth and wonder
Bring your peace to all wherever they are
Amen
