The hope to which he has called you
Listen to this daily worship
Proverbs 3: 13-18, Ephesians 1: 17-19 (NRSVA)
(Proverbs 3) 13 Happy are those who find wisdom,
and those who get understanding,
14 for her income is better than silver,
and her revenue better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called happy.
(Ephesians 1) 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.
The hope to which he has called you
the hope he wrote in your heart day one
the hope buried in a garden’s frost
the hope heard in a storm’s lull
the hope unannounced in a weary eye
the hope longed for
the hope unasked
the hope of a pleasant way
in wilderness heartache
the hope of a peaceful path
for a hurting soul.
It calls you by name
from under your ribcage
and through the soil
crackling in the air
skidding on a glance.
It is a wisdom longed for
replaced by a wisdom unasked
that finds a way
in heartache
and a path
out of hurt.
PRAYER:
Pathmaker of peace
Bring light to our eyes
and hope to our hearts.
Amen.
