His Will for the Church

Colossians 1: 9-14

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will…

Father in Heaven, who created and sustains the universe, and gave life to the church universal, your representation here on earth, the communion of saints and family of God- we give you thanks for the church today. We ask that you would bless her and grant favour, throughout all corners of the earth, wherever the gospel is preached and the sacraments administered. 

Just as Paul prayed for the Colossian church we today lift up our corner of body in the Church of Scotland- asking that you may bless her. We ask above all sovereign Lord, that you may make your will known to her and indeed as a body that she would “be filled with the knowledge” of your will. Your will be done in this, our national church, as it is in Heaven. May the knowledge of the will of God so fill our church courts, committees and deliberations that our actions and decisions will be pleasing, the gospel witness will be effective and above all you will gain all the glory. Amen.
