Romans 15: 13 (NRSVA)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Abounding in hope! It means abundant, to increase. 

How do we increase hope? How do we have abundant hope? 

By speaking life into all situations. 

By bringing Jesus into all aspects of life. 

It is easy to be influenced by the bad news, to be filled with fear. To speak doubt and uncertainty and even death into a situation. 

We are not just feeling this influence from the world, the news, and social media but this sense of doom has even entered our churches, where the focus is on dwindling numbers and loss of finances and church closures. There is this overwhelming sense that the church is dying. 

But friends it is not. Jesus said to Peter in Matthew 16 verse 18: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Nothing will kill God’s church, nothing. So friends we must stop talking like it is. We have to change our narrative. We have to speak life and hope.

For we are not called to spread the bad news, we are called to share the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus who transforms lives, who brings healing, who defeated the grave. Our Lord Jesus who gives hope and life. There are so many in our families, in our communities, in our world who need to hear this message. As you speak life friends, as you speak hope, as you speak Jesus, you will bring revival to our churches again. 

PRAYER:

Fill us with your Holy Spirit Lord, 

Today and every day. 

Give us the courage to speak Jesus

Into all aspects of life

Help us to speak of love, hope and faith. 

Help us to believe that revival is coming 

Amen
