Listen to this daily worship

Exodus 16: 17-20 (GNT)

17 The Israelites did this, some gathering more, others less. 18 When they measured it, those who gathered much did not have too much, and those who gathered less did not have too little. Each had gathered just what he needed. 19 Moses said to them, “No one is to keep any of it for tomorrow.” 20 But some of them did not listen to Moses and saved part of it. The next morning it was full of worms and smelled rotten, and Moses was angry with them.

There is no pleasing some folk.

You are just supposed to take your share for the day.

Tomorrow’s supply will be there in the morning.

But wouldn’t it be useful to have a bit extra? Just in case.

We have always been thrifty, thinking about the rainy day…

No. This miraculous food does exactly what it says on the tin.

One serving per person.

Enough for today.

Be content.

Give thanks.

Prayer:

God of the journey,

even when you provide an extraordinary answer to our request,

we are not content.

We look back.

Weren’t the Old Days better?

Plenty isn’t enough, we still want more.

And it won’t necessarily be good for us.

The excess manna turns rotten.

Greed is ugly.

We see it all around us still.

Bosses getting (not earning!) millions while their workers struggle.

Rich nations taking from poor, finding excuses to keep, not to share.

God forgive us.

May we receive gratefully, share generously, and give thanks always.

AMEN
