God’s Power
Listen to this daily worship
Ephesians 1: 18-23 (NRSVA)
18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. 20 God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Sometimes I seriously struggle with the darkness of the world. I think many of us do. I can sit in floods of tears when I think about the children, animals, God’s creation neglected, abused and exploited. I despair at the injustice, the ignorance and the othering towards our fellow humans. And as I struggle with the darkness of the world I sometimes think what is the point of trying to make a difference for it hurts to care.
And then I’m reminded that God's love and light is more powerful than any force of darkness within the world. For our God overcame the grave. Our God defeated death. There is NOTHING more powerful than that. Our God can breathe life into any situation. Nothing is impossible with our God.
And that renews my hope. God’s breath of life renews my resolve to be the change I want to see in the world. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can be guided to bring that breath of life to the issues we face within our communities and our world.
PRAYER:
Almighty God
Remove from us the spirit of fear
Remove from us the spirit of death
Remove from us the spirit of cynicism.
Fill us with your love
Reignite our hope
Make us bearers of joy and life
May our words be life affirming
May our actions be life giving
In the name of our Risen Lord Jesus
Amen.
