God journeying with us

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

If ever there was a verse of scripture that speaks of the presence of God journeying with us  - surely there is non to beat this one!  Today as you step out into your world - you do not know what the next few moments will bring.  A phone call may change your life for ever.  A chance conversation may cause you to think in a different way.  The events surrounding all our lives may at some point cause us to feel like giving up.  

The thought today from the Hebrew scriptures reminds us of the one who is our constant companion. It is the same thought pattern woven through the Gospels and the Epistles. Jesus promises, “If I go I will not leave you comfortless, I will send the Comforter!” Tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday - a day when a lot of disciples became brave empowered by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

 

Lord,
Thank you for your re-assurance
I cannot live life in fear
And I need not live life alone

Guide my thoughts and actions
Into the right paths
That I might meet
The right people

Today
Give me the courage
To keep going
Give me the strength
To Hold on
Give me the wisdom
To recognise your voice
Turn my fear into faith
Keep my lips silent
And my ears tuned
So that I can engage
In conversation with you
