We’re all performers
Trying out our lines on one another
Using words to
impress
compress
even depress
a thought
a moment
a truth
a person.
Forgive us when we
devalue or dismiss
a colleague or a friend
with a roll of the eye,
or the flick of a tongue
Lord,
We have been absorbed in our own performance.
Applauding ourselves defending our rights
Lord,
We have forgotten you are the audience
It is your approval
Your applause
Your voice we need to hear calling us back for an encore
