2 Thessalonians 1: 1-4, 11-12 (NRSVA)
1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith during all your persecutions and the afflictions that you are enduring.
11 To this end we always pray for you, asking that our God will make you worthy of his call and will fulfil by his power every good resolve and work of faith, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who do you boast of?
I boast of Jack, Jane, Jim, Albert, Laura, Neil, Ishbel, young James (as distinct to me ‘old James’) and all those countless folk who keep Sanctuary First going!
I also boast of all those who tackle the challenges of today with grace, humour, dignity and determination. And part of that dignity and humour is being able to pick themselves back up again when the grace and determination doesn’t stretch quite far enough… I boast of them!
I boast of those who are naturally, instinctively, reflexively generous. Generous with their time and resources, simply as a matter of course.
I boast of those who have been through it all and are here to tell the tale.
I boast of those too humble to think they’re worthy of boasting of — I boast of them!
PRAYER:
Dear God,
We are made in your image and we all reflect you in different ways
We boast of all the wonderful people you have made, strengthened and renewed.
Amen.
