Benefits of Spiritual Well-being
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.
There is great satisfaction in the feeling of physical wellbeing. It can drive us forward, energise and motivate us. Our emotional health, spiritual health and physical health are so closely related. It is never either one or two out of the three, but all together. Those who have undertaken an exercise plan testify to the benefits, and these might include more energy, sleeping better, change in eating habits, losing weight. In the same way those who are conscious of their spiritual wellbeing value time spent praying, reading, meditating, sharing fellowship… they too would speak of the benefits, likewise those who take care of their emotional health.
Lord, sometimes it can be tough to move from the place of reflection and study to the place of recreation and exercise….
The tough thing is the first step…
But that first step, once taken, brings such a feeling of wellbeing.
To walk and feel the breeze or the sun, even the rain, refreshes the body and the soul and the mind.
Troubling thoughts soon become gentler on my mind….
There is pleasure and delight in this walking that makes me wonder ‘why don’t I do this more often?’
And so I pray, that this remembering of the pleasure and benefit of exercise would motivate me when my brain becomes foggy with too much thinking,
when my mind becomes a sieve…incapable of holding a thought for more than a few seconds…
then will I rise and take that first tough step.
Amen.
