Awaken within me
Isaiah 55: 11
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Our vision is way too small. We think in terms of a lifetime - God thinks in terms of eternity yet he still acts in time, in seconds and in minutes. He is the one who speaks a word and it is brought into action. We speak a word and all too often it is no more than a sound bite adding to the meaningless white noise of modernity.
Our reading and our prayer reflection today invites us to value our words as truthful promises of intent perhaps reflecting the old adage ‘my word is my bond’ or in other words, we are saying my words, will define my actions and my actions will prove the truth of my words. To be made in the image of God is to begin to believe that what we say we are we become.
Good morning Lord,
Awaken within me your call
Let your voice stir me into action
Enlarge my vision
Give me the faith to speak the impossible
Believing the impossible, can and will happen
Turn my head from doubt and fear
To view with wonder the promise of your Word
Speak your Word of life - even into your weary Church
Open her eyes to look beyond buildings and structures
To see the invisible beauty of your new creation - coming to life,
Reveal your meadow of grace
Filled with the wild and independent flowers of the Kingdom
May we all grow, in one soil, nurtured under one sun, watered by the one sky
Come Father Son and Holy Spirit
Awake the flowers of the Kingdom
That their beauty may adorn this world
And bring honour and glory to your name.
