2 Corinthians 5: 16-21 (NRSVA)

16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. 20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Earlier this summer the Scottish football team were in Germany playing in the European Championships, and their loyal supporters, the Tartan Army went with them.

Ambassadors!

The German towns visited loved hosting the Tartan Army. They are known and loved throughout the footballing world for their party spirit, their friendliness and good nature.

They are good ambassadors for the country they represent and call home.

As Christians we represent that other country, that other Kingdom.

There is no kilt to wear or flag to fly, no skirl of the pipes proclaiming our arrival.

Rather, our citizenship is made known by our actions, by our love, by our acceptance, by the warmth of our welcome, by our values.

Would people taste the Kingdom?

Be welcomed by the Kingdom?

Encounter the Kingdom?

In meeting you?

Pray:

Lord,

Help me to be a good ambassador for your Kingdom,

Cloak me in your Kingdom values,

May all who cross my path meet with you,

And may your love and welcome always be on my tongue…

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
