A People of Faith

Ephesians 3: 16-17 (NRSVA)
16 I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.
Power is all well and good. But like a lot of things in life, it is what we do with it that counts. The problem is that power is notorious for changing people, or at least changing their perspective, their priorities and their choices.
Not all of the change is bad, but often powerful people lose the ability to see things from the ground up, or to question their own decisions. The same can be true of powerful nations.
I sometimes think that the reason all empires fall in the end is because they collapse from the weight and burden of their own self-belief. No leader, no matter how charismatic, and no human-made institution can hope to hold the full weight of the hopes and longings of millions of human hearts.
Only God can do that. And it is through God’s gift of faith that we build communities of Christ-lightened hearts.
PRAYER:
Loving God
Thank you for the faith that helps to hold our heart-weight
May Christ dwell in us
May Christ’s presence swell in us
That we may bear the light
That we may share the light.
Amen
