A Journey into his Glorious Light
John 1
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
Dear Lord, in the days of winter darkness our spirits are sometimes laid low. They call it “daylight deficiency syndrome” and it can affect us all!
But, on this day we pray that you would protect us from a dimming of the light of faith and we pray that the Light of the World would dwell with in us and through us be seen by others.
Take us, good Lord, on an inner journey into the glorious light:
Illuminate the path that you set before us
Shine on the darkness of our ignorance
Brighten our response to your call upon our lives
By your light expose our wrongdoing and set our feet on a new and living way
Into every dark corner of the earth and into every dark corner of our hearts shine Jesus shine until the whole earth is full of your glory as the waters cover the sea.
We ask our prayer in the name of him who is the light of world, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
