The Cross Shaped Life
Lent is a time when the church traditionally thinks about the humiliation of Jesus. The prophet Isaiah speaks of the ‘Suffering Servant’ Christians see this as a prefiguring of the life of Jesus. The Apostle Peter writing in his first Epistle speaks of the importance of “Humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God”. Take some time to reflect on the significance of humility. Jesus washing feet, Jesus riding a donkey, Jesus before Pilate, Jesus being hunted by sticks and swords, the betrayal, the denial, the mocking. Write seven prayers engaging with the idea of Christ’s humiliation and our unwillingness to walk a crds-shaped life.
