Remembering is Human
The month of November in the UK is a time when we remember those who gave their lives in the two great world wars. However November is also the month in the church Calendar when we celebrate “All Saints Day”. I know it sounds rather grandiose but in fact it is an opportunity for all of us to remember family and friends who once journeyed the Christian path with us and who now are “Asleep in The Lord” awaiting the day of resurrection. For many the month of November has become a “Season of Remembering”. It is with this in mind that we have decided to take different aspects of remembering and reflect upon them during November. In week one we will concentrate on the cost of remembering those who have lost so much during times of war and world conflict In week two we will concentrate on the loss of personal relationships be it through death, divorce or a break down in personal communications. The fact is we all live with lost everyday. Remember and giving thanks and seeking to tie up loose endings into holy endings will be the focus of week two. In the third week we will change the focus from remembering people to remembering places. Most people at some point in their lives come across a place that becomes special to them for their spiritual growth and development. Reflecting on Holy Places can be a source of inspiration and encouragement in times if doubt and anxiety. Finding a holy space, a thin place, where heaven and earth touch has long been a re-energising experience for many people in search of God. In week four we will be thinking of the significance of signs and symbols in helping the Christian community remember her roots. Symbols of cross and fish of chalice and wine etc.
