In week one we will look at the demands of work overtaking our commitment to worship God. Prayers will seek to reflect the honest tension between employment, faith and culture, in a society where many people define themselves by their work ethic rather than their personal relationships.
In week two the prayers will seek to explore the conflict between sport and worship. Do we idolise our sports heroes at the expense of worshipping God? What is the relationship between sport and gambling and our desire to become wealthy and have power? Are we seduced by the lure of Sports rather than worshipping God. In a prayer we might explore what it means to worship God in Spirit and in truth.
In week three the prayers will deal with the politics of power. Prayers helping us to reflect on our own motives for service to Christ. Are we drawn to do good because we might discover that we have power over someone or something. Do we play political games in our relationships with each other to gain power in order to control and manipulate a friendship or a relationship? Contrast this kind of power with the powerlessness of Christ.
In week four our prayers will explore the idea of technology dominating our lives rather than using technology to serve our lives. Could we be worshipping our own ingenuity and ability as we celebrate the advances we have made in technology. Mankind has almost tried to become a god just like the first Adam who ate of the knowledge of good and evil, or those who built the tower of babel. Could we be getting too big for our boots?
