Woven together
Listen to this daily worship
Romans 16: 13 (NRSVA)
13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord; and greet his mother—a mother to me also.
What must it have been like to be an alloparent to Paul, someone who was like a mother to him; nurturing, caring, firm, loving? We do not know how many people Paul considered to be like parents to him but each one will have added a colour to the tapestry of how Paul saw the world and moved around in it.
Sometimes it can feel like too much pressure to be an influence in someone else’s life, to add to their tapestry of living and thinking. But as Christians, as humans, it is what we are made to do. We are not meant to weave alone, to weave only with one colour. We are made by a God who loves us and loves creation. We are made to be colourful to be wonderful to look at and to help each other become more wonderful still.
PRAYER:
Dear God of colours
Thank you that you made us to be colourful
Help us to brighten up each others’ lives
Teach us to weave together in harmony and care
Amen
