With all your heart
Mark 12:28-31
The Greatest Commandment
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
God, it is easy to love you with all my heart.
Because my heart is hidden from the world.
And so I can love you on the days when my heart sings.
And I can love you on the days when my heart is broken.
For you reside in a corner of my heart -
where no one sees,
where I can keep you to myself
where I can be real
because you know what else is there-
the joy and the sorrow
the angst and the anticipation
the fear and the bitterness
You reside there with all of that
and I do not need to hide it from you.
But help me, in hiding my heart
not to hide you so deep
that others fail to see your love
that resides deep in my heart.
In loving you with all my heart
may others also glimpse your love in me.
