Wild swimming
Listen to this daily worship
Matthew 4: 18-22 (NRSVA)
18 As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.’ 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.
"Unfathomable oceans of grace are in Christ for you. Dive and dive again, you will never come to the bottom of these depths." (Robert Murray M’Cheyne)
This is only the beginning!
The exhilaration of the swim — its preparations, challenges, learning of new rhythms and reminder of the bigger picture of prayer — doesn’t end here. Jesus invites us to follow Him more deeply in prayer, perhaps in a new or unfamiliar way.
You know that thing you’ve always done? That way you’ve always prayed, those things you’ve always imagined were necessary, the way God has always spoken? What if He wants more for you? Set aside your expectations, because even now He is doing a new thing. What if He’s calling you out of the lanes — out of the pool entirely? Deep, wild swimming with hearts wild for Jesus!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus
With the immediacy of the disciples, I want to follow You deeper into prayer, wherever You would lead. Though it’s not a familiar way, I trust You, and You are the Way, Truth and Life. I give you my ‘Yes’ today. Amen
