Wild Freedom
Listen to this daily worship
Revelation 22: 12-14 (NRSVA)
12 ‘See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.’
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.
Wild can mean not domesticated or not tame, uncultivated, uninhabited, savage or uncivilised, lacking restraint. Even great intensity, chaotic, untidy and reckless. But it can also mean unconventional, fantastic, unrestricted and, free. Positive and negative connotations.
Reflecting on Wild Jesus, I connect with the positive meanings. He never let fear hold him back or imprison Him, did not accept human limitations and was free, giving freedom to others. Jesus is all this with love and grace, kindness and gentleness. And Jesus is still the same today and will be tomorrow. From beginning to end.
The love of Jesus was unconstrained, it IS unconstrained! It is wild! And Jesus is a reward of those who earnestly seek Him, when He comes soon He will bring wages and rewards. If the love of Jesus is wild, our love for Him is to be wild. We need to be comfortable with being wild, unconstrained as we earnestly look for Him. Be encouraged, whoever goes looking for Jesus, always finds Him, or is found by Jesus! We can step away from fears when we hear Jesus is wild because He does not come to kill, steal or destroy, Jesus comes and gives life in all its fullness. No negative connotation, meaning or anything!
Seeking and loving Jesus without constraint is wild worship of Him, where He sets us free from fear and sends us out to set others free. Let a droplet of the freedom you find in Jesus fall on those you meet today. Let God dispel fear by His intense love. Pray for those held captive in fear, be that in their minds or lives. Abusive relationships thrive on fear and control, and freedom can come through empowering the survivors. Pray for charities, like Women’s Aid who are helping people survive and live. But this is not the type of relationship Jesus offers us. In as much as Jesus is both the contrast of beginning and end, Alpha and Omega, Jesus is both wild and nurturing, speaking peace to our hearts and courage to our souls. He always has done, is doing and always will do.
Jesus is wild from beginning to end.
Prayer:
Prince of Peace rule and reign in my heart and mind today, set me free from the snares of fear and let me fly high in you.
Loving Lord, bless the charities and people helping those in abusive relationships. Care for them, protect them, let your wild love transform the situation and people, bring them out safely into your healing and love. Give them the hope of new life.
Jesus, we believe you are coming back again, and soon. As we wait for that day, we are determined to go wild in our worship of you! Holy Spirit, come and release your power in me today, help me be a free person who sets others free with drops of your heavenly presence. I will not be held back from you by thoughts you are too much for me or savage, but I choose to believe you are good, all the time, you are kind in your wild love for me and I can trust in your unconventional ways.
Rewild my worship of you.
Amen.
