1 Corinthians 13:11b, Philippians 2: 5-11 (GNT)

(1 Corinthians 13) 11b now that I am an adult, I have no more use for childish ways.

(Philippians 2) 5 The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had:

6 He always had the nature of God,
but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God.
7 Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had,
and took the nature of a servant.
He became like a human being
    and appeared in human likeness.
8 He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death—
    his death on the cross.
9 For this reason God raised him to the highest place above
and gave him the name that is greater than any other name.
10 And so, in honor of the name of Jesus
all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below
    will fall on their knees,
11 and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

I think that is probably one question everyone gets asked when they are young, and probably several times over! At one stage I wanted to be an architect – funny, since I have very little artistic flair or imagination! Then I wanted to be a pilot, but I dislike flying so there was no air miles in that one! A lawyer was next, and I actually did become one before God called me to be a minister, which was not on my list, but apparently I was on his! There comes a time when we all must leave childish ways behind and mature. Whatever it is we want to do in life, we are all joined together in faith by what we want to be – and that is to be like Jesus, to walk the path of humble obedience. In all that we do in our daily lives can we say that we approach it with the attitude of Christ Jesus?

PRAYER:

Lord God, we thank you for Jesus, his ministry, his death on the Cross, and for raising him to new life and to the highest place above. In the various avenues of work which we have all walked down, may we be as Christ to others whom we meet. Amen.
