Unacceptable terms!’

Mark 10:21-22

‘Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.’

Lord to have you look at us 
and have the assurance that you love us
Could anything be more wonderful?
I would give everything for that look
Well almost everything…

Do you really have to have it all?
Can’t I just hold onto some of it?
I’ve worked hard for this
I deserve it
I need it!

But as we look at you, gaze upon you,
Through your blood soaked hair
And drops of agonising sweat
Running down your face
And we see you gave everything for us
In those outstretched arms
You held nothing back
Not even your life
Nailed to that cross for our mistakes

So I’m putting down my net
Burning my plough
Leaving my boat
The things that have been so important
But hold me back from your forgiving gaze
I’m cutting loose
I can’t look at your cross and hold on any longer
I accept your invitation
I want to come and follow you
